About Dr. Tamar Posner - Psychotherapist London

Working at my rooms in Queen’s Park, North West London and Marylebone, Central London, I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and supervised in my practice according to their requirements. All my counselling and psychotherapy work is carried out in compliance with the BACP Ethical Framework and the UKCP Code of Ethics.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I trained as a chemist and initially worked in academia both in the US and the UK. I subsequently became a representative for health, safety and environmental issues for the chemical industry and travelled extensively in Europe, Africa and Australia, promoting the chemical industry’s Responsible Care programme, of which I was a co-founder. I therefore have extensive experience of the pressures encountered in both academic and corporate life.

When I opted to re-train as a psychotherapist, I entered into personal therapy as part of that process. I have since worked within the NHS – in general practice and at a centre for people with severe and enduring mental health issues – and as a university lecturer. I now work as a private practitioner in North West and Central London.

I well understand how daunting it can feel to enter into therapy. However, I also know from experience that despite the difficulties that may be encountered along the way, it is possible to emerge from therapy feeling stronger, more complete and better able to cope with life.

I believe passionately in human creativity and our capacity for continuous personal development and growth. I am committed to helping my clients access and optimise their potential for feeling more secure and at ease, with themselves and in their relationships with others.

What is most important to me is that psychotherapy should lead to lasting benefits in everyday life beyond the therapy room.

Further Information

All of us experience difficult or emotionally troubled times in our lives; memories of the past, painful events in the present and worries about the future can all stretch our capacity to cope with everyday life. Some people are lonely, anxious or depressed; some are worried about work, relationships or family life; some will be suffering from bereavement and for some, it can seem that life has lost its meaning.

At such times, talking to an experienced, qualified psychotherapist who can listen with an open mind and a non-judgmental attitude, understand and help to make sense of what is unfolding, can be of lasting benefit and awaken or reawaken a desire to live life more fully.

You may already know what you are seeking. If so, and you would like to see me, my contact details are here.

Equally, it may be that things are not so clear-cut; you may feel that there is no discernible reason for you to feel as unhappy as you do, or that you are adrift in a life with seemingly little purpose. If that is the case, come and talk to me and let’s see what we can do about it.

Clinical Supervision
Working with people who are in crisis can be emotionally draining; it can cause long-term exhaustion (burnout) that, if not addressed, can lead to a reduction in professional effectiveness and a growing sense of job dissatisfaction.

Supervision is an opportunity to reflect on practice and deepen the work; it enables those in the helping professions to develop effective working strategies, consider questions pertaining to personal and professional boundaries and improve their ability to maintain their equilibrium.

While supportive colleagues or managers can provide valuable assistance in dealing with such issues, many professionals additionally appreciate the opportunity to explore their concerns with an experienced, trained and independent person.

I have a diploma in Creative Approaches to Supervision and, incorporating active creative techniques where appropriate, supervise qualified and trainee therapists and counsellors, as well as other professionals, individually and in groups.

My fees for clinical supervision are currently £60.

Dissertation Supervision
I have been a dissertation supervisor for The Minster Centre for several years and, since I specialise in working with people for whom English is not their first language, I also work alongside supervisors from other training organisations in this context.

Academic Assistance
I provide assistance with written assignments – such as essays and case studies – to anyone experiencing difficulties, whether for linguistic or other reasons; I focus on ‘writing for the reader’ and inspiring students to find and express their own voice.

Research Mentoring
I have a research background and am happy to mentor those who may be daunted by the prospect of undertaking the investigative work associated with writing an MA dissertation or PhD thesis.
